As professional environmental scientists, we conduct research and publish scientific findings that contribute to protecting public health. Collectively, our total research experience in the science of exposure analysis adds up to more than 100 years, and we have published numerous scientific papers that have been reviewed and accepted by our peers in major scientific and engineering journals. We have first-hand professional experience working with EPA’s scientists and with its research laboratories, and we have conducted research at universities on various aspects of environmental science and engineering. For more information on the scientific backgrounds and achievements of each of us, please click on the name at the left side of this page. A recent college textbook published by CRC-Press, Boca Raton, FL is available discussing some of our work in the new science of Exposure Analysis.
We believe that the research findings about human exposure to secondhand smoke should be more widely understood and better known by the public, because these findings are important for adopting public policies designed to protect public health. We also feel that the scientific story of exposure to secondhand smoke is useful for public understanding, since an informed public is necessary to protect the health of children and adults. Thus, we hope this web site helps disseminate knowledge that is both scientifically interesting and understandable to the layman. Unlike other sources of air pollution that we encounter in our daily lives, the cigarette is remarkable for its frequency of common use and, despite its small size, for the large amount of pollution it generates.
